By SWRMC Public Affairs

SAN DIEGO – Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) Sailor, Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam T. Barber, received a Letter of Commendation (LOC) for his work advancing the scope of the Navy and Marine Corps Miniature/Micro-miniature Module Test and Repair (2M/MTR) Gold Disk Program on August 8.

The LOC was signed for the Chief of Naval Operations by Vice Adm. William Lescher, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Integration of Capabilities and Resources, and presented to Barber by Rear Adm. Lorin Selby, Naval Sea Systems Command Deputy Commander for Ship Design, Integration and Engineering.

“You directly and significantly improved the operational readiness of numerous Surface Force Pacific Fleet units while serving at SWRMC 2M/MTR branch,” the citation said. “You were the key contributor to significantly reducing sustainment costs and improving operational availability of these critical systems thus ensuring the Surface Force Pacific Fleet could meet vital Fleet commitments.”

Barber, who was selected as the 2M/MTR Technician for second quarter fiscal year 2019, received his LOC and monetary award at the Fleet Maintenance and Modernization Symposium in San Diego.

“You are to be congratulated for your exceptional professional and superb technical skills,” the citation concluded. “Keep up the great work!”

Gold disk developers, considered experts in the 2M/MTR field, are charged with developing standard procedures for repairs to reduce turn-around and provide a cost avoidance to the Navy.

“We are exceptionally proud of Petty Officer Barber’s skills as an electronics technician,” said Rear Adm. Tom Anderson, Commander, Regional Maintenance Center. “He is directly supporting the Navy’s mission priorities of delivering ships on time and improving ship warfighting capabilities. With Sailors like Petty Officer Barber as part of our team, our maintenance centers will continue to provide superior support to the Fleet.”

Barber’s circuit card testing and repair efforts included the repair of seventy-six electronic system modules and circuit card assemblies of the AEGIS Weapon System, WSC-3 Receiver/Transmitter, IFF CEC Interface, and UYK Signal Data Converter resulting in a cost avoidance to the Navy.

Petty Officer 1st Class Dewayne Nix, attached to USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), was also selected as a 2M/MTR Technician for second quarter fiscal year 2019 and received a LOC presented by Selby.

SWRMC is meeting its mission to provide superior ship maintenance, modernization, technical support, and training for the Pacific Fleet.
