Mayport, Fla. - Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) Additive Manufacturing division created a new cooling fan rotor for a chilled water pump using an aerospace-grade thermoplastic known for its strength, heat resistance, and flame retardancy. The fan sits inside the cowling, right, before installation aboard ship. The six-blade part is not available to purchase separately in the Navy supply system, requiring the purchase of an entirely new pump at a significant cost to correct the deficiency.
