NUWC Division Newport engineer designs fin control method that could have military, commercial applications

NEWPORT, R.I. - Richard Dooley (from left), a mechanical engineer in the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport’s Undersea Warfare Weapons, Vehicles, and Defensive Systems Department, shows a model of his invention, “Variable Camber Segmented Control Surfaces,” to Ian Estaphan Owen, co-founder and chief executive officer of JAIA Robotics Inc., during the Northeast Tech Bridge Technology Showcase held at the 401 Tech Bridge collaboration center on April 18, 2023. The event highlighted areas in which industry and academia could partner on research that is of interest to the U.S. Navy.
