NEWPORT, R.I. - Mohamed Ahmed (back row, right) stands for a photo when he attended the integrated elementary school in Kumi in 1964. Ahmed was 10 years old at the time and in fifth grade. His uncle, Nazir Ahmed, is in the second row (third from right). Ahmed, an electrical engineer in Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport’s Sensors and Sonar Systems Department, recently marked 50 years since arriving in the United States as a refugee from Uganda.
