Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) is constructing an environmentally focused and energy efficient Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP). The new CHP will significantly improve the shipyard’s energy security in a safe and effective way by allowing NNSY to be independent of the local power grid for reliability and resiliency. The primary purpose of the CHP project is to support the Department of the Navy’s Three Pillars of Energy Security: Reliability, Resiliency and Efficiency. This project will provide NNSY with safe, reliable and secure energy to fulfill its critical mission.
