IMAGE: NSWC Dahlgren Division Commanding Officer Capt. Godfrey 'Gus' Weekes briefs new first-line supervisors from divisions across the Naval Warfare Centers on the first day of their five-day Propel training course. "I applaud the fact that you applied (for the supervisory position) and are showing others that it is important to be outside of your comfort zone and to contribute as leaders," said Weekes, who recommended a book he just finished reading called 'Neptune's Inferno' about the World War II naval battle for Guadalcanal. "If you need anything to get your mind sharper on why we do what we do, and the need to ensure that the Fleet understands the way the combat system actually works - the capability it actually provides - read or listen to that book."

Propel provides an introductory level awareness of the Warfare Center expectations for supervisors while increasing their collaboration and understanding of Warfare Center operations. A tour - scheduled this week for a deeper look into the work being done at Dahlgren - will provide an opportunity for further collaboration and sharing of best practices.
