NUWC Newport engineer issues a machine learning challenge, nets two winning ideas

NEWPORT, R.I. - Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Newport team members Caleb Martin (left), and Robert H. Bretz (right), recently solved a machine learning challenge that was issued by Gary Huntress (center). Working in their spare time, the engineers were asked to create an image classifier that could distinguish cruise ships from merchant vessels.
