Mr. Jon Pentzer, SSTM

Acting Technical Director, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport

Mr. Jon Pentzer, SSTM is currently serving as the Acting Technical Director at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport.

Prior to this appointment, Jon served as the Undersea Weapons Department Head at NUWC Division, Keyport, earning the Senior Scientific and Technical Manager designation in May 2025. Mr. Pentzer led an organization of over 700 personnel providing a full spectrum engineering, maintenance, and sustainment capability for US Navy undersea weapons. The department includes the lightweight torpedo In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA), the nation’s only lightweight torpedo Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA), two of the nation’s three heavyweight torpedo IMAs, the nation’s only torpedo and mines depot, and all associated ordnance storage and handling capabilities. Operations encompass an expansive set of facilities located in Keyport and Bangor Washington, Pearl Harbor Hawaii, and Hawthorne Nevada. Mr. Pentzer previously served as the Deputy Department Head of the Undersea Weapons Department from January 2019 until June of 2024.

From 2017 through 2018 Mr. Pentzer served as the Rapid Prototyping and Fabrication Technology Division Head at NUWC Division, Keyport. He led a diverse technical workforce to provide engineering, rapid prototyping, and advanced industrial fabrication and repair services including advanced maintenance technology insertion capabilities, reverse engineering process advancements, and applied expertise in advanced laser, robotics, and additive manufacturing technologies.

As the Customer Advocate for Undersea Defensive Warfare Systems (PMS 415) from 2014 through 2017 he managed all PMS 415 tasking at NUWC Division, Keyport including test and evaluation, in-service engineering, Countermeasure Anti-Torpedo (CAT) warshot integration, and cybersecurity. The program had high visibility within Navy leadership including direct attention of the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) when challenged to employ creative strategies to rapidly field CAT technology for the Fleet.

In prior roles Mr. Pentzer held multiple positions within NUWC Division, Keyport’s Test & Evaluation (T&E) Department, he served as an On-Site Representative (OSR) at NAVSEA's Undersea Defensive Warfare Program Office as the Surface Ship Torpedo Defense (SSTD) T&E Manager, and served as the Test Engineering and Experimentation Branch Head.

Mr. Jon Pentzer is a native of Winchester, Idaho and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho and a Master’s of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School.
