Command Master Chief Shelly D. Williams (SW/AW/IW/IUSS), a native of Hemphill, Texas, enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1999. After graduating from Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, she completed Radioman “A” School at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes.
Her fleet assignments include USS Porter (DDG 78), Multi-National Corps/Multi-National Forces—Baghdad, Iraq, and Carrier Strike Group TWO. She served as Command Master Chief for USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) from July 2018 to September 2021, where her leadership played a pivotal role in the ship’s exceptional maiden deployment, which included nine months of operations across Fifth and Seventh Fleets during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under her tenure, the crew earned three Retention Excellence Awards and the 2020 Battle “E.”
She went on to serve as Command Master Chief for Destroyer Squadron Nine, from October 2023 to November 2025. Her previous shore assignments include United States Pacific Command, Camp Smith, Hawaii; Naval Ocean Processing Facility, Dam Neck, Virginia; Center for Information Dominance, Dam Neck, Virginia; Command Senior Chief at PSNS & IMF Detachment Everett, Washington; and Command Master Chief at Naval Station Everett.
In November 2025, she assumed her current role as Command Master Chief for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
Williams has earned the Enlisted Information Warfare, Aviation Warfare, Surface Warfare, Master Training, and Integrated Undersea Surveillance System Specialist designations. She is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 190 - Green); the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course; and the Advanced Command Master Chief Course.
Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (fourth award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (third award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (fourth award), and numerous unit and campaign awards.
