Captain Robert W. “Rob” Rose, a native of Garland, Utah, graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in May 2000. He received his commission at Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida later that year. He also completed a Master of Science in Operations Research at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Following initial nuclear propulsion and submarine officer training, Captain Rose reported to USS Miami (SSN 755) as a division officer and deployed to the Arabian Gulf. He served as Engineer Officer aboard USS San Francisco (SSN 711) during which time the ship completed a one-of-a-kind bow-restoration and change of homeport to San Diego, California. He later served as Executive Officer of USS Columbus (SSN 762) completing a Western Pacific deployment. He commanded USS Louisville (SSN 724) from October 2017 to February 2020, completing the ship’s final deployment to Central Command.
Ashore, Captain Rose has served as a Deputy Program Manager on the staff of Director, Undersea Warfare Division (OPNAV N97) in Washington, DC and as the Director of Special Operations on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force, United States Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Following command of Louisville, he was the Senior Board Member on the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board of United States Pacific Fleet. Most recently, he served as the Division Chief of United States Strategic Command J81, Advanced Warfare Capabilities Division.
