CAPT Joshua Fields

Commanding Officer, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair, Bath, ME

Captain Joshua Fields, a native of both Muskogee, Oklahoma and Jay, Maine, received his commission and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Systems Engineering from Maine Maritime   Academy via the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. He was designated a Surface Warfare Officer in 2001.

Captain Fields’ first tour was at Naval Postgraduate School from 2001 to 2002 where he received his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. His sea tour was from 2002 to 2005 aboard USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85) as the Main Propulsion Officer (MPO) and Ships Material and Maintenance Officer (SMMO), where he laterally transferred to the Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) community via the EDO Option.

Captain Fields’ EDO tours have included the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center where he qualified as a full EDO; the LSD Class Squadron; the United States Naval Academy as a Master Instructor; the Ship Repair Facility (SRF) Detachment Sasebo, Japan; the Board of Inspection and Survey; the Officer in Charge (OIC) and Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Program Manager’s Representative (PMR) for the SUPSHIP Bath Detachment Marinette; and the Deputy Principal Acquisition Program Manager for the LHA class at PEO SHIPS (PMS 377), but was a heavy contributor to the Post Delivery efforts on the LPD class. Prior to becoming the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Captain Fields served as the SUPSHIP Bath Executive Officer.

Captain Fields’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various service and unit awards. Captain Fields is married to the former Miss Abigail Gardiner, of Readfield, Maine. They reside in Wiscasset, Maine with their daughters Hannah (22) and Elliot (19).
