Master Chief Machinist's Mate Nuclear (SW/AW) Cynthia M. Huratiak

Command Master Chief, Naval Nuclear Power Training Command

Master Chief Cynthia M. Huratiak, a native of Calexico, California, enlisted in the Navy in April 1997. Following basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, she completed Nuclear Field Machinist’s Mate “A” School and Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Orlando, Florida. She then finished the nuclear power training pipeline at Nuclear Prototype Training Unit, Goose Creek, South Carolina.

At sea, she served aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) during a refueling and complex overhaul; USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) as initial manning and for the ship’s commissioning and homeport change to San Diego, California; USS Enterprise (CVN 65), completing a rigorous maintenance period, workups and deployment; USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) for pre-commissioning duty, where she was selected for advancement to chief petty officer in 2007; USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), serving as the reactor propulsion leading chief petty officer and reactor training division officer, while completing two deployments and returned to USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) where she served as Reactor Department Master Chief and completed a 28 month availability and subsequent certification and return to full operational status.

Her shore tours include administrative support at Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, Newport News, Virginia; instructor duty at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Nuclear Field “A” School, where she was selected for advancement to senior chief petty officer; and Women in Nuclear Power Coordinator and Command Master Chief at Submarine Learning Facility, Norfolk.

Huratiak reported as Command Master Chief for Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, SC in February 2022. 

The 2013 recipient of the Master Chief Anna Der Vartanian Leadership Award, her decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various unit and campaign awards. She is married to Thomas Huratiak and has a son, Zachary Huratiak.
