RECRUIT & RETAIN
STEM is an important field and NSWCDD demonstrates the Navy’s willingness to invest in the next generation of Navy STEM professionals from grade school to full-time employment.
We offer Coding and STEM clubs led by our mentors. We donate technology such as computers to schools to give them the necessary tools to be successful in STEM.
As a part of our commitment to building the STEM pipeline we offer the following programs:
* Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) – an opportunity for high school students to participate in research at a Navy laboratory during the summer. SEAP provides competitive research apprenticeships to students who have an interest in science and engineering. Participating students spend eight weeks during the summer conducting research at participating Navy laboratories. For more information, visit the official SEAP website at https://www.navalsteminterns.us/seap/
* STEM Student Employment Program – provides interns with exposure to public service, enhance educational experience and a streamlined hiring process to become a NSWCDD full-time employee.
* Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Scholarship for Service Program – supports undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at Department of War (DOW) laboratories.
* DOW Cyber Service Academy – both a scholarship program for the DOW, and a capacity building tool for the nation. The program is a result of commitment from DOW and Congress to support higher education to prepare the DOW workforce to deal with threats against the department’s critical information system and networks.
* Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) – an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Navy laboratory during the summer. NREIP provides competitive research internships to undergraduate students and graduate students each year. Participating students spend 10 weeks during the summer conducting research at participating Navy laboratories. For more information, visit nreip.asee.org
* Defense Civilian Training Corps (DCTC) – a congressionally-mandated talent development program that provides a multidisciplinary, active-learning curriculum with summer internship projects at DOW organizations. DCTC is a highly selective pilot program that provides a 100% tuition scholarship and two-year curriculum with a project-based summer internship that prepares scholars for direct pathway into DOW acquisition-related careers.
* Professional, Administrative, Assistant, Clerical and Technician Student Employment Program – an opportunity for students to gain practical job skills while working with, or understanding the guidance of, experienced personnel through alternating or parallel periods of academic study and career-oriented employment. These positions focus on business, human resources, contracting and finance support for NSWCDD.
