Walter Mason
Public Works
Walter B. Mason started his career at the Naval Proving Ground at Dahlgren in February 1938. His initial job title was "Classified Laborer" at the Carpenter Shop. He was later reclassified as a "General Helper" before a promotion to "Joiner" in the Carpenter Shop. In 1944, Walter volunteered for the Navy and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater until 1946 when he returned to his position at Dahlgren. He was later promoted to "Planner and Estimator" and subsequently selected to "Chief Planner and Estimator" as a GS-11. At his retirement in October 1974, Walter held the position of Division Head in the "Facilities Management Division" as well as "Public Works Administrative Staff Head GS-13. In this role, Mason's organization was responsible for all Special Construction projects for the base.
