During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY – The littoral combat ship USS Canberra (LCS 30) entered the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility on May 26, 2025. As an Independence variant of the LCS, Canberra is deployed in the region to enhance maritime security in the Middle East. Since 2014, the Battle Management System has been involved in developing the fire control hardware and software for the Hellfire Longbow, which is part of the LCS surface-to-surface missile module.
