During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. Captain Jason Grabelle assumed the duties of (Acting) Executive Director, Amphibious, Auxiliary, and Sealift Ships within Program Executive Office Ships in December 2024. He provides executive leadership to more than 200 personnel and oversees one of the broadest acquisition portfolios in the Navy, including more than $40 billion in complex shipbuilding procurements. Previously, he served as Program Manager, Amphibious Assault and Connectors Program (PMS 317) and Program Manager, International Fleet Support Program (PMS 326).
