During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Carderock Engineer Assists with International Fight Against COVID-19

Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division’s Milton Perez-Cruz and his coworkers use the Ultimaker S5 3D printer to produce face-shield frames before assembling the face shields in April 2020. As part of their local COVID-19 response efforts, engineers in the additive manufacturing lab at the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center Detachment Rota, Spain, have shifted their focus toward alleviating personal protective equipment shortages for medical professionals in the community.
