During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. 2017 STEM Summer Academy

KING GEORGE. Va. (June 29, 2017) - Middle school students fire water rockets they built with fuel load to maximize height at the 2017 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division sponsored STEM Summer Academy, held June 26-30. Camp activities also included ten robotic challenges; exploring epidemiology; building and destructively testing a tower from balsa wood with the goal of maximizing the strength to weight ratio; predicting the number of each color of M&Ms in a large bag after compiling statistics on numbers in smaller bags; and building a boat out of foil and straws with the aim of maximizing its cargo carrying capacity.
