During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS&IMF) and Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) partnered to bring laser scanning technology to America's Shipyard.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. The Navy is partnering with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to execute a Service Life Extension Plan on up to five of the Yard Patrol (YP) 676 Class Training Craft. The maintenance and modernization work will be performed at the USCG Yard in Baltimore, Maryland and will allow the midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) to continue training onboard these craft. YP 688 is the first craft to arrive for modernization.

The Navy is partnering with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to execute a Service Life Extension Plan on up to five of the Yard Patrol (YP) 676 Class Training Craft. The maintenance and modernization work will be performed at the USCG Yard in Baltimore, Maryland and will allow the midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) to continue training onboard these craft. YP 688 is the first craft to arrive for modernization.
