Shipyard Team Gives Back to the Community
Portsmouth Naval Shipyard participates in Veterans Administration retraining programs and supports employees in fulfilling National Guard commitments.
Another long standing community partnership involves participating in the Piscataqua River Cooperative (PRC) that prepares for response to oil spills on the Piscataqua River. The PRC was formed in 1971 and is made up of Irving Oil, Sprague Energy Corp, and Public Service of New Hampshire. Other agencies that have a role in its activities include the Shipyard, the State Department of Environmental Services, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, the U.S. Coast Guard, University of New Hampshire, Portsmouth Harbor Towing, and Newington Fire Department, as well as the civil air patrol. It is a partnership committed to protecting the Seacoast's precious environment.
Shipyard employees give annually contributions to the Seacoast United Way through the Combined Federal Campaign. The CFC is the government's workplace giving campaign for federal employees in the area. It is a volunteer-based campaign that allows federal employees to give to local, national and international non-profit agencies through donations.
Shipyard workers donate blood to the American Red Cross monthly. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard was named an American Red Cross Hero in 2012 for continually running a successful blood drive with an unmatched level of employee participation.
