SMART scholars make first visit to PHNSY & IMF
PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (May 19, 2025)— Russell Risch, an industrial engineering technician at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility describes the function of a dry dock to the shipyard’s first Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program scholars during their tour of the shipyard May 19, 2025. The SMART program is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for STEM students that provides a pathway for aspiring engineers and scientists to gain valuable real-world experience. June 4, 2025 - Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility extended an Aloha to five scholars from the Department of Defense’s Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program May 19, 2025, marking the first year PHNSY & IMF is participating in the workforce development program.

Castle High School STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students engage with Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) engineers in an open-panel discussion, exploring the world of STEM careers and innovations Nov. 7, 2024. Hawaii Regional Maintenance Center preps USS Antietam for decommissioning
PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 14, 2020) The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54) moves in formation during exercise Valiant Shield 2020. Valiant Shield is a U.S. only, biennial field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training in a blue-water environment among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking, and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas. Sept. 23, 2024 - Members of the Hawaii Regional Maintenance Center (HRMC) at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) completed an inactivation availability Sept. 13, 2024, to prepare USS Antietam (CG 54) for the end of its active Navy service.

Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS North Carolina (SSN 777) enters Dry Dock 1 at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) Sept. 4, 2024. North Carolina is at the shipyard for its Depot Modernization Period, where the shipyard project team and ship’s crew will give the vessel its scheduled maintenance upgrades and makeover. Sept. 9, 2024 - Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility’s (PHNSY & IMF) workforce successfully docked Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS North Carolina (SSN 777) on Sept. 4 in preparation for a Depot Modernization Period (DMP).
