Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) 102

The Navy accepted delivery of the next generation landing craft, Ship to Shore Connector (SSC), Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) 102, June 3, 2021. Delivery follows successful completion of Acceptance Trials with the Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey to test the readiness and capability of the craft and to validate requirements.

Shipbuilders lift the mast onto the amphibious transport dock Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29). This San Antonio class ship is a major part of the Navy’s 21st century amphibious assault force. The 684-foot-long, 105-foot-wide ships are used to embark and land Marines, their equipment and supplies ashore via air cushion or conventional landing craft and amphibious assault vehicles, augmented by helicopters or vertical takeoff and landing aircraft such as the MV-22 Osprey.

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (June 4, 2021) The future guided-missile destroyer Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) is launched, June 4, 2021, at Huntington Ingalls Industries, Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Miss. DDG 125 is the first Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to be built in the Flight III configuration. Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Gulf Coast is the United States Navy’s echelon III field activity that administers and manages shipbuilding contracts with privately-owned shipyards located along the Gulf Coast with detachments in Louisiana and Alabama, as well as post-delivery contracts with contractors in homeports around the country. This organization of approximately 600 military and civilian personnel, an activity of the Naval Sea Systems Command, provides engineering, quality assurance, contract management, and financial services required to streamline how our shipbuilding contractors provide ships and craft to our Navy.
