Alex Hagmuller, a mechanical engineer from the Portland, Oregon-based team AquaHarmonics, tells the crowd how their wave energy converter (WEC) is working to absorb energy from waves, which can then be converted and used as a power source. AquaHarmonics competed against eight other teams to win the 2016 Wave Energy Prize of $1.5 million, which was awarded Nov. 16 at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division in West Bethesda, Md.
