MAYPORT NAVAL STATION, Fla., –
Mayport’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) hosted their second annual “Mayport Mud Run” August 20th as part of their monthly “Fun Run” series. More than 600 service members and families participated, and Team SERMC dominated them all.
“Our team smoked the competition. We had the lead the whole race and never surrendered it,” said Chief Interior Communications Electrician Ronald Remillard from SERMC Code 200. Team SERMC completed the 2.5 mile course rife with obstacles in 16 minutes 22 seconds.
Remillard is the command fitness coordinator at SERMC and is a terrific example for junior Sailors to follow. “I have been at SERMC since April 2013 and I enjoy being involved with all the different athletic events the base offers. In addition to the softball team, I play on SERMC’s basketball team and we’ve won the championship 3 out of the past 4 years,” Remillard said.
Remillard teamed up with three Sailors from SERMC Dive Shop, Code 970. “When it comes to team building and unit cohesion, no group is tighter than the divers at SERMC. They are the hardest charging, most motivated team we have. They never quit or think about losing,” said Remillard.
“The mud run was a lot of fun. It gave us an opportunity to get out and have a good time while doing something athletic. The fact that we won the way we did really makes us feel good.” said Navy Diver Seaman Mitchell LaFave.
MWR events like this go hand-in-hand with the Navy Fitness Program which enhances the readiness, retention and quality of life of the entire Navy family.
