By PEO Submarines Public Affairs

WASHINGTON - Rear Adm. Michael E. Jabaley relieved Vice Adm. David C. Johnson as the Program Executive Officer for Submarines during a change of office ceremony Oct. 30 at the Washington Navy Yard.

As Program Executive Officer, Jabaley will be responsible for developing, acquiring, modernizing and maintaining the U.S. Navy's submarines and undersea systems.

"I look forward to continuing to work on what Team Submarine will accomplish over the next several years," said Jabaley. "Our most important task is the number one acquisition priority in the Navy, making sure the Ohio Replacement SSBN remains on track, and continuing to deliver Virginia class submarines ahead of contract and within budget, while adding capabilities."

During the ceremony, Johnson was promoted to Vice Admiral and has been selected as the principal military deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (Research, Development, and Acquisition). Sean Stackley, Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development, and Acquisition) was the keynote speaker and presented Johnson with the Distinguished Service Medal.

"Any successful enterprise has key tenets that make it successful," said Johnson. "Things like teamwork, exceptional people, outstanding leadership and consistently outstanding results, all bound in a sense of purpose."

Jabaley's most recent assignment was commander of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and deputy commander for Undersea Warfare. His sea tours include assignments aboard USS Drum (SSN 677), USS Ohio (SSBN 726), USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) and command of USS Louisville (SSN 724) from May 2002 to August 2004.

From September 2008 to July 2012, he served as Virginia Class Submarine program manager, delivering four of the Navy's newest fast attack submarines. Jabaley was selected for flag rank in 2011 where his first flag assignment was as vice commander, Naval Sea Systems Command.
