WASHINGTON NAVY YARD – Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Small Business Office hosted the 2023 NAVSEA Small Business Industry Day event in Washington D.C., Oct. 26. The event brought together government and industry leaders to further strengthen a competitive and healthy small business industrial base.
The industry day events are in alignment with a call from the Secretary of the Navy to remove barriers and bring advances through small business opportunities. Through forums like this, the Navy has the opportunity to impact and leverage small businesses on the federal level.
During the event’s keynote remarks, NAVSEA Executive Director, Giao Phan, reinforced NAVSEA’s ongoing commitment to the small business community.
“In fiscal year 2022, NAVSEA awarded $3.9 billion in prime small business obligations. In fiscal year 2023, we awarded $4.1 billion in prime small business awards,” said Phan. “The increase in small business awards at NAVSEA isn’t about checking a box, it’s about delivering capability to the fleet on-time and on-cost. If you can do that, if you can deliver capabilities that keep our adversaries on their heels, then I want you on our team!”
The event offered potential and current small business industry partners the ability to hear of upcoming opportunities from Team Subs, Team Ships as well as Program Executive Offices (PEO) Aircraft Carriers, PEO Integrated Warfare Systems and PEO Unmanned and Small Combatants. NAVSEA Directorates, (SEA 02, SEA 03, SEA 04 and SEA 05) and the NAVSEA Warfare Centers also participated.
Industry attendees had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with PEOs and directorates, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program office and NAVSEA Small Business Office. The Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) participated and provided information on how small businesses can gain the accreditations required to work with Navy.
“It is very important that we harness the power of those small, innovative and agile companies within the base to help us meet the needs of our warfighters,” said Patricia (Anne) Bannister, director of NAVSEA’s Small Business Office. “Hosting small business industry days and engaging directly with small businesses allows us to help expand the advantages within the defense industrial base as a whole.”
