NSWC Dahlgren Division Announces PEO IWS Awards for First Quarter

By Taft Coghill Jr., NSWCDD Corporate Communications

The Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) recognized several individuals from Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) with awards for their accomplishments during the first quarter of fiscal year 2023.

The PEO IWS Excellence Awards honor innovation and improvement in the areas of product quality, technical innovation, cost control/schedule acceleration, organizational efficiency and process improvement in support of the PEO IWS office.

The NSWCDD Optical Dazzling Interdictor (ODIN) Restoration team was nominated for its exemplary performance, teamwork and unwavering dedication to its mission. During the nominating period, the team addressed complex problems and technical challenges to restore the ODIN unit ahead of schedule and deliver the unit back to USS Dewey (DDG 105) for reinstallation two months ahead of the projected timeline.

The citation recognizes NSWCDD team members Michael Dwyer, Trevor Acosta, Alexander Berty, Cara Brooks, Zachary Conroy, Tyson Hensel, Tyler Jones, Joseph Pingleton and Joseph Kreider.

PEO IWS also recognized the Japan J7 Dual Ship Combat Systems Ship Qualification Trials Team, which included NSWCDD employees Mark Flenner and Alexander Solomonik.

This team performed a highly successful complex series of events with Japan’s new construction ships. Planning for this effort began in 2019 with a series of face-to-face meetings in Tokyo between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime staff office. The meetings helped define the Japanese requirements for the new construction ships.

The SQQ-89 Modernization and Installation Team, consisting of NSWCDD’s Bryan Singleton and Jeffrey Wiggins, is also a recipient of a PEO IWS award.

This team received recognition for their superior leadership and expert management in planning, coordinating and fielding the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 Undersea Warfare System on cruisers, destroyers, frigates and future surface combatants while dealing with hardware shortages and system delivery delays. During the first quarter of FY23, the team developed fielding plans with other PEO IWS, NAVSEA and Type Commanders to ensure timely and efficient modernization upgrades despite changing ship schedules and persistent material delays.

Please join NSWCDD command and senior leadership in congratulating each team member for their efforts in supporting our Navy warfighters.
