Jeff Hough, senior scientist and technical manager and the Navy’s distinguished engineer for ship design at Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, received the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers’ David W. Taylor Medal for his notable achievements in naval architecture throughout his career. Presenting the award on Oct. 31, 2019, at the SNAME Maritime Convention in Tacoma, Washington, was Suzanne Beckstoffer, president of SNAME, and Howard Fireman, senior vice president at American Bureau of Shipping.
Hough was nominated by his long-time mentor and fellow SNAME member Bob Keane, who said, “As director of the Navy’s Center for Innovation in Ship Design (CISD) for fourteen years, Hough successfully capitalized on the CISD to rebuild the Navy’s ship design capabilities in terms of experienced design engineers, lean-agile design processes and integrated design tools. Through his highly experienced leadership, he has re-established the NAVSEA Enterprise as the Navy’s heart and focal point for innovations in naval ship concepts and warfare capabilities.”
