CRANE, Ind. – Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) hosted its fifth annual Microelectronics Integrity Meeting (MIM) at the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis Aug. 6-7. Five hundred professionals from across the country attended the event this year, including registrants from the Department of Defense (DoD), DoD contractors, academia, and industry.
The MIM conference featured several speakers who discussed Resilient Systems and their impact across our defense systems and in our daily lives. Brian Stuffle, a Division Manager at NSWC Crane, says Crane’s support in microelectronics is critical to maintaining national security.
“Microelectronics serve as the foundation of our defense systems on land, in the air, and at sea,” says Stuffle. “Ensuring that foundation is resilient to extreme conditions and counterfeit parts will allow computer systems to work when the warfighters need them to work.”
Speakers discussed cybersecurity, trusted microelectronics, supply chain risk management, trusted foundries, and anti-counterfeit microelectronic efforts.
“The MIM creates a forum for microelectronics experts to tackle the unique challenges we’re facing in the DoD,” says Stuffle. “Gathering leaders across industry, academia, and government together provides the opportunity for collaboration. We are able to share ideas and lessons learned to ensure the DoD has viable solutions to current and future threats.”
MIM keynote speakers included Brett Hamilton, a Senior Scientific Technical Manager (SSTMs) at NSWC Crane and Dr. Matthew Casto, a Program Manager for Microelectronics at the Office of The Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OSD). Other featured leaders from US Navy, US Air Force, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3), Indiana University, Purdue University, The University of Notre Dame, and more participated.

NSWC Crane is a naval laboratory and a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) with mission areas in Expeditionary Warfare, Strategic Missions and Electronic Warfare. The warfare center is responsible for multi-domain, multi- spectral, full life cycle support of technologies and systems enhancing capability to today's Warfighter.
