CRANE, Ind. – A Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) employee received the Office of the Secretary of Defense Award for Excellence for contributions to Electronic Warfare (EW) across the Department of Defense (DoD). Adam Miller received this prestigious award for his work during a one-year assignment as a Staff Specialist for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSD(A&S)).
Miller addressed multiple complex issues in support of Electronic Warfare. He was recognized for demonstrating exemplary technical leadership, commitment, strategic thinking, and programmatic acumen in advancing the electronic warfare portfolio.
“I’m honored to receive this award,” says Miller. “It means a lot to me to be recognized for my work over the past year to strategically drive significant investment in EW. I was part of a team that ultimately allowed for a more effective and efficient budget that will be compatible with other services.”
During his rotational assignment for NSWC Crane and from former assignments at the Office of Naval Research (ONR), Miller’s substantial technical knowledge was significant to the mission. Miller was instrumental in building a coalition across the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and the Services for Electromagnetic Battle Management (EMBM). He was a key leader in organizing meetings and ensuring consensus could follow discussion, tenacious in gathering critical data, thorough and deliberate in all his engagements. He worked diligently to understand the diverse views from widely varying technical experts to seek common ground for standards and agreement.
Miller was also recognized for his extensive knowledge in both business and technical aspects of the entire electronic warfare portfolio.
He says rotational opportunities, like the ones at he took part in at ONR and OSD, have been invaluable for his career.
“Rotational assignments are some of the best things you can do for your professional development,” says Miller. “These positions really help put things in perspective. My experiences in these programs opened my mind and I gained a more comprehensive understanding of how a different pieces fit together to form the big picture.
