By NSWC Crane Corporate Communications

CRANE, Ind. – Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) has recently selected Mr. Rob Walker to serve as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

As CTO, Walker is responsible for internal science and technology investments, technology transfer, K-12 and university science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) outreach programs, PhD Fellowships, and innovation lab pilot programs such as the Crane Artificial Intelligence Development Lab (CrAIDL).

With the 30 years of technical experience at NSWC Crane, Walker brings an abundance of knowledge and expertise to this critical role.

Since Walker began his NSWC Crane career in 1988, he has led projects for the military and other government agencies in each of Crane’s mission areas. He has helped launch programs, technology, and partnerships internally and externally that are critical to national security. He has also served as a Chief Engineer, a Manager, and a Science Advisor twice.

Walker says it is a great time to serve as the NSWC Crane CTO.

“Our internal investment program, academic and industry outreach, STEM education, graduate research, and technology transfer programs are operating at an all-time high,” says Walker. “NSWC Crane is at its highest-ever employment level and includes nearly 1,500 scientists and engineers who executed over $80 million of research and development last year. Our highly educated workforce, including more than 100 employees with Doctorates and more than 600 with Masters Degrees, combined with hundreds of partners in academia and industry, are delivering technology that ensures our Navy is the best in the world. I am excited to serve as CTO for NSWC Crane.”

Walker has earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Evansville, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and a Master of Public Administration from Indiana University.

NSWC Crane is a naval laboratory and a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) with mission areas in Expeditionary Warfare, Strategic Missions and Electronic Warfare. The warfare center is responsible for multi-domain, multi- spectral, full life cycle support of technologies and systems enhancing capability to today's Warfighter.
