By PSNS & IMF Public Affairs

Bill Kennington is an electrician with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility’s San Diego Detachment Temporary Services Division. Kennington has been with the command since August 2011 and is a graduate of the Southwestern Regional Apprenticeship Program in San Diego.

Briefly describe your job.

In (the Temporary Services Division), we provide temporary electrical services to ships or other areas where they are needed. For example, we might bring in electricity to an area to power temporary lighting or welders. These services could be needed shipboard, pier side or anywhere within the PSNS & IMF facilities.

What do you like about your job?

Each day I look forward to working with great people. The dedication and resolve that I see in my coworkers is very encouraging. Working as a team with a common goal and a sense of purpose makes my job at the detachment very fulfilling.

How does what you are doing benefit the command and beyond?

Being a part of something greater than myself is always a great feeling.  The Navy has an unprecedented global presence today. The assistance, protection and relief it provides around the world is something I am very proud to be a part of.

What has been a memorable moment or an encouragement to you about your job at PSNS & IMF?

One day I was on the pier when the carrier I had been working on began to pull away.  It was an awesome sight.  It felt great to know that I was a small part of helping this very important United States asset continue on with its mission.
