Hart Assumes Command of SWRMC

SAN DIEGO - Capt. David Hart relieved Capt. Hugh "Skip" Huck III as Commanding Officer of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in a ceremony at Naval Base San Diego's Bainbridge Park June 2. 

SWRMC Executive Officer, Cmdr. David Tarwater provided the opening remarks for the ceremony while Rear Adm. James Downey, Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center and Deputy Commander, Surface Warfare, Naval Sea Systems Command, served as the guest speaker.  

Hart began his naval career as a surface warfare officer before transitioning to an engineering duty officer in 2000. He most recently served as a DDG 1000 program manager's representative at Supervisor of Shipbuilding Bath. He was responsible for overseeing the design and construction of the Zumwalt Class Destroyers. Additional assignments include damage control assistant on USS Hue City (CG 66), auxiliaries officer on USS Nicholas (FFG 47), main propulsion inspector with the Board of Inspection and Survey, production officer for U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center in Sasebo, Japan, production engineer for the LPD 17 program office and logistics analyst with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations Programming Division. 

Hart's awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and the Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star.

Huck's retirement comes after a successful thirty-one year navy career. As a surface warfare officer, Huck served as auxiliaries division officer aboard USS Stein (FF 1065), combat systems maintenance officer, electrical officer, and auxiliaries officer on USS Germantown (LSD 32), chief engineer on USS Gary (FFG 51) and USS Thomas S. Gates (CG 51). After a transfer to Engineering Duty Officer in 1999, Huck served in various staff engineering, maintenance, technical, and program management positions. Huck assumed command of SWRMC on March 27, 2015.

SWRMC is a NAVSEA field activity and is responsible for depot and intermediate level maintenance and fleet technical assistance for the U.S. navy ships and submarines. 

SWRMC's mission is "Our uniquely qualified team provides superior ship maintenance, modernization, technical support, and training for the Pacific Fleet."
