NUWC Division Newport employees mentor four middle school teams in 2026 International SeaPerch Challenge

NEWPORT, R.I. - Joey Freeman (second from left) and his teammates from The Pennfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, maneuver their SeaPerch remotely operated vehicle through the water during the New Bedford Regional competition held in Massachusetts on Dec. 6, 2025. The team, mentored by Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport employees, advanced to the 2026 International SeaPerch Challenge along with three other Division Newport-sponsored teams. SeaPerch is an underwater robotics program for students in grades 5 through 12.
