1924 time capsule captures Navy presence in Newport a century ago

NEWPORT, R.I. - Maria Vazquez, a collections specialist with the Naval War College Museum in Newport, Rhode Island, displays an edition of the “Newport Recruit” during the unveiling of a time capsule that was buried in 1924 on Coasters Harbor Island in a collaboration between officials from the city of Newport and the Navy. The glass time capsule containing naval history from Newport, Rhode Island, was opened during an event held at the Newport Public Library on Jan. 24, 2025.
