220627-N-UP244-1147.JPG Photo By: Neil Mabini

CORONA, Calif. - From left to right, Jered Herndon, Steven Foster, and Joseph Higelin, all telemetry technicians in the Performance Assessment Department of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division, install a Portable Auto Tracking Telemetry Antenna, a component of the enhanced Portable Advanced Telemetry Acquisition System, aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickham, Hawaii, June 27, 2022. The system was developed by the warfare center to detect launched ballistic missiles, automatically track telemetry data, and quickly provide that information to warfighters so they can act accordingly, and was installed on the Fitzgerald in preparation for the Pacific Dragon exercise. Five nations are participating in PACDRAGON 2022 in and around the Hawaiian Islands in August. This international maritime exercise provides a unique training opportunity to detect, track, and defend against ballistic missiles while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring safety and security on the world’s oceans. PACDRAGON 2022 is the third exercise in the series that began in 2018. (U.S. Navy photo by Neil Mabini) (This photo has been altered for security purposes by blurring out identification tags.)
