WEST BETHESDA, Maryland - University of Victoria Submarine Racing Club team members (from left) Ethan Glenwright, Jaryd Middleton and Liam Scott-Moncrieff open the hatch to their human powered submarine to configure their electronics system hoping to optimize their speed during the 15th International Human-Powered Submarine Races on June 25, 2019. This biennial science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) event held at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division in West Bethesda, Md., provides an avenue for high school and college teams to tackle the difficult challenges of submarine design, construction and operation.
