Cameron Sorlie, technical lead for the Navy's Laser Weapon System (LaWS), discusses high energy technologies at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Briefing and Technical Demonstration held at Naval Sea System Command (NAVSEA) headquarters, Nov. 3. "It's great to talk to NAVSEA leadership and provide additional details on the capabilities that the warfare labs provide," said Sorlie, a member of the LaWS engineering team that designed and developed the laser weapon system. The team installed and integrated LaWS aboard the deployed USS Ponce (AFSB(I) 15) while training the ship's Sailors on its operation. USS Ponce Sailors reported the weapon performed flawlessly, exceeding expectations for both reliability and maintainability, during June 2015 testing in the Arabian Gulf.
