Capt. Michael Taylor became the 30th Commander of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Bath on Sept. 5, 2014. As SUPSHIP Bath commander, he oversees 290 military and civilian personnel responsible for the design and construction of five Navy shipbuilding classes at four private shipyards in the United States.

Raised in Elizabethton, Tenn., Taylor entered the Navy through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program at the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1993.

He became an engineering duty officer and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned dual degrees of Naval Engineer and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also received the Naval Sea Systems Command Naval Construction and Engineering Award for distinguished scholarship and professionalism upon his graduation in 2000. His first engineering duty officer tour was with the Personnel Exchange Program in Ottawa, Canada, where he served as deputy program manager for a $96 million Junior Officer Training Vessel acquisition program until 2002.
