NUWC Division Newport employee shares family legacy with USS Fort Lauderdale
John Lauderdale of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport’s Undersea Warfare Electromagnetic Systems Department displays personal challenge coins presented to him during a tour of the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) while the ship was docked at Naval Station Newport from Nov. 21-24, 2024. The ship and city in Florida are named after Lauderdale’s great-great-great-granduncle William, who served as a lieutenant under Andrew Jackson when the Tennessee volunteers were dispatched to New Orleans in 1812 and as a major during the Second Seminole War in 1838.

NUWC Division Newport’s 2024 Toys for Tots drive nets impressive donations
Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport Technical Director Marie Bussiere (fourth from right) and Commanding Officer Capt. Chad Hennings (third from right) are joined by the many volunteers who assisted in a collection of the donations for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve 2024 Toys for Tots program on Dec. 13, 2024. Among the volunteers were Emily Kearns (from left), Mike Geremia, Jack O’Toole, Tara Moll, David Loiselle, Erica Felins, Erin Oliveira, Natasha Dickenson, Ryan McLarney, Luke Fairbanks, Todd Cabral and Tammy Condry. Martin Guyotte (from left), a recently retired senior staff analyst from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport Undersea Warfare Mission Engineering and Analysis Department, is presented the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award by Commanding Officer Capt. Chad Hennings on Nov. 26, 2024. Guyotte, who retired on Nov. 29 after 35 years of service, was recognized with the third highest honorary civilian award bestowed by the U.S. Navy for his outstanding achievements as a senior staff analyst from January 2018 to November 2024.

NUWC Division Newport senior technologist receives ONR award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Science
David Pistacchio, a senior technologist in the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport’s Chief Technology Office, was recently selected for the 2023 Office of Naval Research Fred E. Saalfeld Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Science, the highest award that ONR confers on a naval research scientist. He was honored for his work as a national and international subject matter expert in active and passive acoustic signal processing.
