During the visit, Owens and Cramer met with senior leadership from PHNSY & IMF to assess progress on the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program and tour the shipyard’s dry dock areas that will be modernized beginning in 2023. The first modernization action proposes to construct and operate a new graving dry dock and waterfront production facility to support current and future classes of the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) held a groundbreaking for its new production training facility July 1, which will consolidate training currently spread across 26 different NNSY locations and eight departments into a single 157,000 square-foot, $64.7 million dollar facility. ARABIAN GULF (1998) — Karen Wingeart provided maneuvering recommendations to the officer of the deck using a maneuvering board aboard a U.S. Navy ship as the crew prepared to come alongside a refueling ship. Wingeart served as the junior officer of the deck during the underway replenishment and was referred to by her watch team as the “mini-moboard operator.”
