    Snack & Learn Mental Health Learning Series

  • Thursday, November 30: Scary stories We Tell Ourselves and how to Flip the Script
    • 0900 BLDG. LF-18 Breakroom
    • The Stresses of the holiday season can often cause negative thought patterns to intensify, leading to low mood, poor functioning, and relational conflicts.  Featuring clips from popular holiday specials including It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!, this session will help attendees  identify common thinking errors and provide practical tools for challenging and reframing automatic negative thoughts.
  • Tuesday, December 5: "You cant' spell families without LIES".
    • 0900 BLDG. CEP-200 Classroom 1
    • Many people report that navigating difficult family relationships during the holidays can stress their mental health.  During this session, clips from Four Christmases and Die Hard will illustrate negative relationship patterns that loved ones often fall into and how these patterns can be exacerbated by holiday stress. Attendees will also learn strategies for positive engagement to protect their mental health and encourage relationship growth.
  • Tuesday, December 12: Self-Care to Deal with Difficult Separations
    • 0900 BLDG. LF-18 Breakroom
    • the third session in this series offers attendees practical strategies for coping with being separated from loved ones during the holidays.  Utilizing clips from Home Alone, the mental health counselor will provide education on effective self-care across eight different dimensions as well as ways to address negative thoughts and feeling that can be triggered by isolation.
  • Thursday, December 14: "Bah, Humbug!"
    • 0900 BLDG. CEP-200 Classroom 1
    • The final Snack & Learn session uses clips from A Muppet Christmas Carol to address how negative memories or recent losses can make celebrating difficult.  the mental health counselor will provide education on the concept of meaning-making and how learners can use coping statement and self-soothing techniques to deal with triggers that may arise throughout the holiday season and into the New year.
