The NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD in Portsmouth, Virginia, is one of the largest shipyards in the world specializing in repairing, overhauling and modernizing ships and submarines. It's the oldest and largest industrial facility that belongs to the U.S. Navy, and it's also the most multifaceted. NNSY follows the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and has been a Star site since 2006. This web site was designed to introduce you to the vast industrial capabilities available at NNSY, and to invite you to take a closer look at what Norfolk Naval Shipyard has to offer.

NNSY Car Deals to NNSY DOD Decal Information

The elimination of the use of DOD vehicle decals to access naval installations was directed by Navy to begin on 1 July 2013 per NAVADMIN 146/13. Some of the implementation guidance from Navy and other commands may mention that decals can be removed after 1 July. However, installations have been given the authority to locally manage parking and visitor control. NNSY leadership and labor partners are in the process of developing a plan to allow full implementation of vehicle decal elimination, while maintaining parking control for all stakeholders.

In the interim, all personnel that obtain access onto NNSY proper (NNSY and other tenant command employees, ship's crew, military members assigned, and frequent visitors) are requested not to remove their DOD decals after 1 July until advised by NNSY to do so. There are no changes to parking requirements in the interim period. If a new vehicle is purchased or a decal for another vehicle is needed, employees are required to go to Pass and ID to obtain a Temporary Vehicle Pass. Much more to follow as plan is finalized.
