NOSSA is a team of experts executing weapon and explosives safety for the United States Navy. If you work with ordnance in any way, chances are you've seen our work. If you are handling ordnance safely, we made your safety possible. We assess risk, develop policy, train servicemen, and provide technical assistance so that our combined effort ensures the lowest incidence of mishaps in the history of the Navy.

Who We Are

NOSSA is the Navy's expert team dedicated to minimizing ordnance-related mishaps. As the Navy's technical authority for weapon system safety, we play a crucial role in protecting personnel and resources. Our expertise spans all aspects of weapons and explosives safety, from developing policies to providing technical assistance, making ordnance operations safer for everyone. Our team includes engineers, safety professionals, former military personnel, and other experts with deep knowledge of ordnance and explosives.

What We Do

We develop safety policies, provide training, assess risks, and offer technical assistance to the Fleet to prevent accidents. Working closely with the Navy, Department of Defense, and allied partners, we ensure that weapons and explosives are handled safely throughout their lifecycle. This includes establishing safety requirements, monitoring compliance, supporting safe transport and storage, integrating environmental considerations, and planning for safe facilities. At NOSSA, we believe that safety exists alongside all other missions - it is a partnership between expertise and execution.

Our Vision

Our Navy wins in all domains when the warfighter can project combat power on the adversary - prioritizing explosives safety results in a more ready, lethal, and operationally capable force. We enable this through technical excellence across battle damage repair, system restoration, and crisis acquisition and logistics,
