MOBILE, AL (Oct. 20, 2017) - USNS City of Bismarck (EPF 9) successfully completed acceptance trials after two days of underway evaluation in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship will now begin preparations for delivery to the Navy later this year. Expeditionary Fast Transports are versatile, non-combatant vessels designed to operate in shallow-draft ports and waterways, providing increased flexibility for maneuver and sustainment, relief operations in small or damaged ports, flexible logistics support, or rapid transport. ARABIAN GULF (Oct. 20, 2017) -- The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) patrol alongside each other, Oct. 20, 2017, in the Arabian Gulf. Nimitz is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in this region, the ship and strike group are conducting maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, preserve freedom of navigation, and maintain the free flow of commerce. And a drum roll, please.... The U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2018 received their service assignments yesterday, informing them of the warfare communities in which they will serve as commissioned officers in the Navy and Marine Corps.
