Silverdale, WA - Capt. Robert D. Figgs, from Kaneohe, Hawaii, enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately following high school graduation in 1984. After initial technical and basic submarine training he was assigned as a Navigation Electronics Technician aboard USS Grayling (SSN 646) based in Charleston, S.C., and then Vallejo, Calif.
