Captain Wright hails from Silver Spring, Maryland and received his bachelor’ s degree from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 in Naval Architecture. He earned a Master’s in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and a Mechanical Engineer’s Degree from Naval Postgraduate School.
Captain Wright qualified submarines and nuclear engineer while serving onboard USS MONTPELIER (SSN-765 ). Following his sea tour, he was assigned to OPNAV N5 as the Global War on Terror Action Officer.
After his selection to the Engineering Duty Officer Community, Captain Wright earned his Navy Diving and Salvage qualifications. His subsequent assignments include serving at Ship Repair Facility, Yokosuka, Japan as Project Superintendent and Deputy Waterfront Operations Officer, Pacific Fleet Salvage Officer and Program Manager at COMPACFLT N43, Executive Assistant for PEO Submarines, Assistant Program Manager for Acquisition for the Submarine Escape and Rescue Program (PMS 391), Department Head tours as Engineering and Planning Officer and Waterfront Operations Officer at Ship Repair Facility, Yokosuka, and Diving Department Head at Southwest Regional Maintenance Center. Captain Wright most recently served as the Deputy Commander for the Northwest Regional Maintenance Center (NWRMC).
He assumed command of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) in May 2026.
Captain Wright’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. He is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community with certifications in Program Management and Engineering and Technical Management. Captain Wright is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of California, was the 2022 National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Federal Engineer of the Year Agency Award winner for NAVSEA, and recipient of the 2023 American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) RADM Frank C. Jones Award for Major Maintenance and Alterations.
