Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) maintenance team completed early repairs for USS Princeton (CG 59) on June 5, supporting the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness goals.
“Your superb coordination, synchronization, and communication in a restricted COVID-19 maintenance environment enabled the repair to be completed days ahead of schedule and supported Princeton’s sail away,” said Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S Pacific Fleet, Vice Admiral Richard Brown to SWRMC repair team in a Bravo Zulu message.
SWRMC Waterfront Operations were notified on May 15 of an engine cooling fan failure during Princeton’s recent underway. This failure rendered one of the main propulsion engines inoperable and in need of extensive repairs due to location on the ship. The repairs were scheduled to be completed in two weeks.
Amidst the COVID-19 concerns, coordinated efforts were made for the safe and efficient replacement of the cooling fan, with the maintenance team arriving on site as soon as possible to begin repairs. Five days into repairs, Princeton commanding officer requested completion date be moved up to accommodate their new schedule. SWRMC maintenance teams reassessed and came together to lay out a strategy adjusting the repair duration to meet Princeton’s commitments.
SWRMC employees worked with Princeton’s crew to complete the repairs six days ahead of schedule in support of Princeton’s operational commitments.

David Hart, SWRMC’s commanding officer. “Great job by the entire team – accomplishments like this are what make SWRMC an organization the Navy can depend on!”
