EVERETT, Wash. –
A new leader took the helm of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility Detachment Everett Friday, when Cmdr. Aaron Coudray relieved Cmdr. Mark Schuchmann in a change of charge ceremony at the detachment.
Capt. Dianna Wolfson, commander, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, presided over the ceremony. Capt. Ginalyn Harrell, deputy commander, Northwest Regional Maintenance Center, served as the guest speaker.
“It has been an honor working with Mark, and I’m sad to see him go,” said Harrell. “His ability to communicate and empower his team has improved morale and helped our partnership with the maintenance community.”
During her remarks, Harrell emphasized Schuchmann’s accomplishments while in charge of the detachment.
“Under his leadership, the detachment completed 33 maintenance availabilities and 151 enlisted Sailors received their maintenance class-codes,” she said.
Schuchmann, who took charge of the detachment in August 2017, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal during the ceremony.
“We strive to be on time and under budget at Everett Detachment,” said Schuchmann. “But that’s only the beginning. The real story is the journey you take to get there. The teamwork you all embrace combined with the passion for your work has made this a special assignment. It has been an honor to serve all of you,” he continued.
Schuchmann will move on to Japan, where he will serve as the waterfront operations officer for the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility in Yokosuka.
Coudray, a native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, has served in the Navy since 2002. In that time, he served aboard USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) and USS Michigan (SSGN 727), aboard which he completed three western Pacific deployments. He also served aboard USS John Warner (SSN 785) prior to its commissioning. His most recent assignment saw him complete his qualifications as an engineering duty officer at PSNS & IMF, where he served as the deputy project superintendent for various ship maintenance availabilities.
“Today is about celebrating the accomplishments of this detachment,” said Coudray. “The people here are our most valuable asset, and I look forward to being able to help you all grow personally and professionally.”
