NSWC Dahlgren Division Makes On the Spot Job Offers to Candidates at Career Fair

By NSWCDD Corporate Communications

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) made 36 on-the-spot job offers at a career fair held at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center, the command's Human Resources Division announced Feb. 7.

In all, 313 candidates participated in the event.  Recruiters were pleased with the candidate turnout, many held bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in fields such as computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics and business administration and came to inquire about positions available for entry-level and experienced scientists, engineers, and business professionals.

“This is the first year that we opened the event up to non-science and engineering positions and we had an overwhelming response for our contract, financial, and information technology positions,” said Shelby Khan, the NSWCDD Human Resources Recruiting Program lead who coordinated the event held Feb. 5. “We anticipate additional interviews and offers resulting from the career fair in the weeks to come.”

More than 200 candidates pre-registered for the event in another first for an NSWCDD career fair.

“We hosted the career fair using our new recruiting tool, Yello,” said Khan. “The pre-registration feature enabled us to make name tags for the pre-registered candidates ahead of time for a much faster check-in process than in the past. It allowed us to have a very smooth start to the event.”

Moreover, with pre-registration, managers were able to review resumes prior to the event and had already coordinated several interviews in Yello.

“This really made the most of the hiring managers’ time at the event,” said Khan.

In addition to their conversations with NSWCDD human resources specialists, the candidates discussed career opportunities in detail with scientists, engineers, contracts officers, accountants, and information technology specialists representing the command's seven technical departments in addition to the Comptroller Department, Contracts Department, and the Information Technology Division of the Corporate Operations Department.

NSWCDD technical departments comprise the Strategic and Computing Systems Department; Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems Department; Gun and Electric Weapon Systems Department; Weapons Control and Integration; Readiness and Training Systems Department; Warfare Systems Engineering and Integration Department and the command’s new Warfare Analysis and Digital Modeling Department.

The command, the largest among the Navy's surface and undersea Warfare Center divisions, is a premier research and development center that serves as a specialty site for weapon system integration. Dahlgren's unique ability to rapidly introduce new technology into complex warfighting systems is based on its longstanding competencies in science and technology, research and development, and test and evaluation.
